Pioneer Party Theme
Pioneers and their families were instrumental in the early growth of the United States. These adventurous Americans traveled long distances on dangerous trails to settle undiscovered parts of the country.
Celebrate an important era of this nation's history with a pinoeer party. Western ware or pioneer costumes are appropriate attire for this event. Many early pioneers traded items such as fur, so hang old looking faux fur around the room.
The dinner should consist of corn-on-the-cob, sweet molasses, fruit, baked beans, biscuits, corn bread, and steak. For dessert, try fried ice cream or berries and nuts.
Pioneers traveled in wagon caravans hauled by animals. Rent an old wagon or purchase a scene setter for an authentic background. If possible, arrange for a petting zoo to come to the party. For an indoor activity, play "Oregon Trail," an educational yet entertaining game.
Compete in a potato-sack race or wagon-pulling race to keep guests entertained. Then play western music and try square-dancing. For old-fashioned fun, bob for apples. If a pool is nearby, pretend to raft across a river, much like pioneers forged rivers in history.
Fill each loot bag with jerky, lemon drops, jacks, marbles, dominoes, a jump rope, and a whistle.
