Samurai Party Theme
Use cranes, the Japanese symbol of long-lasting life, as invitations. Japanese-themes invitations can also be purchased online or at a party supply store.
Purchase a “konichiwa” banner to welcomes guests to the Japanese celebration. One idea to reserve a section of a Japanese restaurant, but for a more intimate setting use your home. Use low tables and pillows for guests to sit on. Hang a large Mount Fuji backdrop to enhance the setting. Purchase oriental screens and use them as room dividers or decorations. Bonsai trees and bamboo create a Japanese setting. Hang paper lanterns in a variety of colors and flower arrangements throughout the room. Enhance the Japanese environment by playing a CD of Japanese classical music to enjoy as guests devour Japanese cuisine.
Guests should kimonos or dress in Samurai warrior, Geisha girl, or ninja costumes. Hire Japanese dancers in traditional dress and makeup to perform for guests. Dancing lessons and karaoke also make for a fun night!
Give each guest a Samurai sword as he or she enters. Host a mock battle or sword-fighting competition. Then screen a Samurai movie, such as "The Last Samurai."
Enjoy different types of Sushi or other Japanese favorites such as teriyaki chicken and rice with steamed vegetables. Encourage guests to eat with chopsticks. For dessert, enjoy ginger ice cream. Serve traditional Japanese teas and sake.
Decorate the cake in the Samurai theme or use Samurai warrior cake toppers.
Translate the names of guests into Japanese and write them on the place cards. (Some Web sites allow one to translate English names into Japanese.)
